Roadwalks

The Florida Trail runs 1100 miles through some of the most beautiful, wild, and scenic areas of the state. State Forests, National Forests, wilderness areas, protected seashores, there's quite a lot, and quite an interesting variety to see. Unfortunately, these protected lands do not make a contiguous run through the state. Beautiful stretches that take anywhere from half a day to a week to traverse are connected by roadwalks ranging from a couple miles to over 50. Fortunately, most of the roadwalks are on rural dirt roads with very little traffic, but in a few spots hikers have to walk high speed highways. For me, so far on this trip - about 700 of the 1100 complete now - the hassle of the roadwalks have been worth the rewards of the protected areas. And there are some good aspects to the roadwalks, too. Generous trail angels appear on the roadwalks or at trailheads. I've been offered rides, water, fruit, and lots of various snacks. I've also enjoyed some of the sights like the customized mailboxes. I hope you enjoy some of the roadwalk pics below. I enjoyed taking them!
